Manimahesh Lake Trek (also known as Dal Lake, Manimahesh) is a The lake is situated at a high altitude and requires proper acclimatization. situated close to the Manimahesh Kailash Peak in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, in the Bharmour subdivision of Chamba district of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The religious significance of this lake is next to that of the Lake Manasarovar in Tibet. The lake is the venue of a highly revered pilgrimage trek undertaken during the month of August / September corresponding to the month of Bhadon according to Hindu calendar, on the eighth day of the New Moon period. It is known as the 'Manimahesh Yatra'.The Government of Himachal Pradesh has declared it as a state-level pilgrimage.

Itinerary

Day 1: Amritsar / Pathankot – Bharmour (Approx. 210 km / 8–9 hrs)

  • Pickup from Amritsar Airport / Pathankot Railway Station.
  • Drive through scenic mountain roads via Chamba and reach Bharmour, the base of Manimahesh Yatra.
  • Check-in at hotel and relax.
  • Evening visit to the Chaurasi Temple Complex (84 Temples) and Bharmani Mata Temple.
  • Overnight stay in Bharmour.

Day 2: Bharmour – Hadsar – Dhancho (by road & trek)

  • After breakfast, drive to Hadsar (13 km) – the starting point of the trek.
  • Begin trek to Dhancho (6 km) through beautiful pine forests and waterfalls.
  • Reach Dhancho campsite by afternoon.
  • Evening aarti and spiritual session.
  • Dinner and overnight stay in camps at Dhancho.

Day 3: Dhancho – Manimahesh Lake – Return to Dhancho

  • Early morning trek to Manimahesh Lake (6 km) — located at the foot of Mount Kailash (Manimahesh Kailash).
  • Take a holy dip in the sacred lake and participate in morning rituals.
  • Enjoy the serene views and visit Shivling Darshan.
  • After darshan, return trek to Dhancho for overnight stay in camps.

Day 4: Dhancho – Hadsar – Bharmour

  • Morning trek back to Hadsar (6 km) and drive to Bharmour.
  • Check-in at hotel.
  • Evening free for local sightseeing or rest.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at Bharmour.

Day 5: Bharmour – Amritsar / Pathankot (Departure)

  • After breakfast, drive back to Amritsar or Pathankot.
  • Optionally visit Golden Temple or Wagah Border Ceremony (if time permits).
  • Tour ends with divine blessings of Lord Shiva.

Best Time for Manimahesh Trek

due to the presence of heavy snow until late June, trail conditions may be challenging. The recommended time for a clearer, more pleasant trek is from August to September. The best time to go for the Manimahesh Yatra is the end of August when there is almost no snowfall and the weather is very clear with no bad weather conditions. September is also a good option as the daytime temperature is between 12 to 20°C. However, you must note that the nights in September can be cool and the nights in September can be quite cold, requiring proper thermal and woolen wear.
