Tips for Travellers for Planning their Tour

Travel Tips & Practical Advice

To have a smoother, more fulfilling heritage tour, consider these:

  1. Timing & Weather

    • Best months: October to March — weather is pleasant; heat & humidity less bothersome.

    • Avoid midday heat for outdoor sites; early morning or late afternoon are better.

    • Carry water, hat, sunscreen, a light scarf or cover‑up.

  2. Footwear & Clothing

    • Wear comfortable walking shoes; many heritage places have uneven floors, wood, stones etc.

    • Dress modestly especially at temples.

  3. Guides & Info

    • If possible, hire a local guide (or use audio guides) at big sites like Rajwada or Lal Bagh Palace so you understand stories behind architecture.

    • Carry a good camera / phone for photos; lighting can make a big difference (morning/evening).

  4. Entrance & Timings

    • Many places are closed on Mondays (check in advance).

    • Check official opening hours; some museums or palaces close for lunch breaks.

    • There may be entry fees, especially for foreign nationals (higher sometimes).

  5. Safety & Respect

    • Respect local customs and religious sentiments in temples. Follow rules (no shoes, photography restrictions etc).

    • Be aware of traffic & crowding, especially near popular locations like Rajwada.

  6. Combining Sites Logistically

    • Many heritage sites are clustered around central Indore (Rajwada, Krishnapura Chhatris etc). Good to group them to avoid back‑and‑forth.

    • You could plan one day for palaces + museum, another for temples + cenotaphs + church etc.

  7. Sunset / Evening Visits

    • Some places (e.g. Krishnapura Chhatris, Rajwada area) become especially beautiful near sunset, with good photography conditions & cooler weather.

    • If there is a light & sound show (Rajwada has), check the schedule ahead and plan to be there.

  8. Food & Rest

    • Heritage tours can be tiring. Plan breaks—local food, chai, markets. Indore has excellent street food & cafes near many heritage spots.

    • Carry snacks / water.
