Tour Details

Why Kailash Yatra

Mt. Kailash, the sacred mountain and the abode of the Hindu god Shiva is one of the world's greatest pilgrimage destinations especially for Hindus, Buddhist, Jains and others. The breath-taking beauty of this sacred mountain and the holy lake of Mansarovar along with ruins of 9th Century of Guge Kingdom in Far Western Tibet are a reward of a lifetime to experience. Recognized by and Popular among People as The Roof of the World, TIBET has fascinated humanity for centuries. This land beyond the mighty Himalayas, on the highest plateau of the world, was inaccessible to the outside world and has always been a challenge to all mortal beings as a unique destination: Tibet is a land of spectacular skylines, majestic mountain peaks, breathtaking canyons, serene high-land lakes, rolling pastures and farmlands & pristine Forests. It also is a land of ancient Buddhist culture, artistic monasteries and centuries-old caravan trails. Its snow-covered mountains and windswept plateau are the highest in the world. The world's highest mountain - Mount Everest, rises in southern Tibet. Ka-erh in western Tibet, with an elevation of more than 15,000 feet (4,570 meters) above sea level, is believed to be the highest town in the world.

The great lakes Manasarovar and Rakshas Tal which lie in the shadow of Kailash, are also manifestations of aspects of the Hindu religion and symbolize the water tanks at the entrance to every Hindu temple. Manasarovar, shaped like the sun and therefore symbolizing the light, is believed to be the lake formed in the mind of God, created to show the omnipotence of the mind of Brahma. This is why bathing in the lake and drinking in its water is a purifying process for Hindus and a way of reaching the Brahma's paradise. Just one drop of water from the serenely beautiful Manasarovar is said to set one free from the contamination of the poisonous world.

Temperature -Average (May to September): 4 – 20 ºC Day Time / -1-2ºC Night Time

Tibetan terrain is dry, cold, windy and dusty and night is much colder than the day. The best months for a Mt. Kailash trip are from May to September. During this period, the maximum temperature will be 22oC and minimum temperature will drop to -10oC.

Anyone who can walk for an average of 4-5 hours a day can make this trip. The itinerary is programmed to help get the clients acclimatisation to the gradual rise in altitude. All participants are advised to check their fitness before joining the trip.

Altitude sickness may be felt above 3000m, but with the acclimatisation day and the gradual rise in altitude, you shouldn’t feel too much at discomfort. It’s always advisable to stay hydrated and drink lots of water.

Transportation in Tibet will be by Land Cruiser or Tourist Coach. A support truck will be travelling along to carry all the camping gear, food provisions and luggage.

Four star hotel accommodation will be provided in Kathmandu. In Tibet, accommodation will be in lodges for every stay overnight, whereas during the Kailash Parikarma and at Mansarovar, there will be tents with foam mattresses and sleeping bags.

Sometimes the lodges in Tibet may not be sufficient to provide individual rooms, so you may have to share with fellow participants.

While on the trip, all main meals, tea, coffee, juice and drinking chocolate are included. Food is prepared by our trained cook and is served hot – however while travelling, a packed lunch will be provided until the next stopover. Proper boiled water/mineral water will be provided.

There will be restricted means of communication during the trip, but the team leader will have a roaming phone to convey messages in an emergency which you can also use to call your home. Also telephone lines are available at various points of the journey.

Each participant must be covered by travel and medical insurance that should include helicopter evacuation in an emergency. Please hand us a copy of your insurance.

Bottled oxygen with mask and regulator for all emergency/medical purposes will be carried during the tour and the parikarma.

Prior to departure from Kathmandu each participant must leave a bond with Climb High in the form of an authorization letter. This enables Climb High, in the event of an emergency, to initiate emergency services and any other services necessary without delay.

In Tibet, only Chinese currency ‘Yuan’ is accepted. So it is advisable to exchange the currency you need before your departure for Tibet. You can exchange INR/ USD to Yuan in any money exchange in Kathmandu or at border. There are no ATM facilities available anywhere during the tour.
