The Narmada is a sacred river that flows from Amarkantak in the Maikal Hills in central India. Parikrama is a Sanskrit term derived from the base words "pari" which means "around" and "krama" which means "moving." As a result, Narmada was born. Parikrama is the Hindu term for circumambulating a river. This is a centuries-old Hindu spiritual/religious custom in which pilgrims begin walking from any place along the river after collecting Narmadaji's water in a vial and travelling with the river to their right.
