Although every single Jyotirlinga is an abode of Lord Shiva, but each one of 12 Jyotirlingas is a different manifestation of Lord Shiva. A Jyotirlinga generally means pillar of light, and it contains the soul of that supreme Lord residing in it. It is believed to say that, those who visit all these 12 Jyotirlingas would attain moksha or salvation and would be free from the cycle of birth and re-birth, and also get the blessings of Lord Shiva. Devotees crave to visit all the 12 Jyotirlingams in order to purge themselves of all of their mortal sins.
